Churchwarden's Jottings

(November 30, 2017)

Three great events have taken place in the last month. The village quiz, now in its tenth year, won by the Down and Outs for the second time. A big thanks goes to John, Shirley ,Peter and my wife, Jo. The evening would not have been complete without our outstanding quiz master, Kelvin Boot, who took time out of his busy schedule to ask those mind bending questions. A big thank you to Kelvin.

Secondly, we experienced a wonderful night of music on 8 November. Mary
Jess played to a packed church, her performance earning her a very well
deserved standing ovation at the end.

Lastly, November saw the Christmas Fayre. A Paul Rycroft production,as
only he can organise. Some wonderful costumed characters and a visit
from Father Christmas on his red tractor helped us to kick start our run
up to Christmas. Thank you to all of the helpers, those who donated
items and all of you who came along and supported the event.

The Christmas Tree Festival continues a very busy Christmas time at St
Andrews. From the 1-3 December St Andrews plays host to Christmas Trees from
around the world. Come and marvel at those creations. On 3 December we
are concluding with a carol service at 5pm.

One of my favourite services is our Christingle service taking place on
Sunday 10 December at 4pm.The church will be full of excited children
and there is a unique atmosphere.

Our main carol service is on Sunday 17 December at 6.30pm. This will be
a candlelit service.

The event I most look forward to in the run up to Christmas is Words
for Voices. Tickets are now available, price £10 (the same as last
year), for this wonderful evening of music and prose. I urge you to
secure your tickets early as it is no lie that they sell like the creme
de la creme of hot cakes. Tickets from yours truly or Sarah Hales.

There will be the regular services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
(more details of on the Church page of this august magazine and on the
church website) round off this very busy but joyful period.

Christmas to me means carols, so do come and join us. Finally, may I
take this opportunity to wish you a very happy Christmas and I look
forward to seeing you in 2018, when there will be more churchwarden’s
jottings to come!
