Remembrance Weekend

(November 17, 2014)

St Andrew’s was shown off at its best over the weekend of 7-9 November due to the WW1 exhibition commemorating those from our Parish who lost their lives during the conflict. A big thank you to all of those who made the effort to decorate the Church so well, especially the sand bags at the entrance! Apologies to the one or two of you who we gave a bit of a fright, thinking flooding was imminent as we moved the bags to Kenn.

Friday evening began with a very special Words 4 Voices concert with readings and music associated with the first world war and a tribute to the 39 men from the parish who lost their lives during the conflict. Our thanks to Sarah Scoble for organising the concert. All who attended have commented on how moving the evening was.

Our remembrance day service was extremely well attended. In my years in Kenn I have never seen so many people both outside at the war memorial and afterwards in Church, where it was standing room only. Thank you to all of you who attended and helped make this act of remembrance so special but particularly the children of our parish.

May I extend my thanks to the Reverend Mark Bate, Linda Baker, Jane Chislett, Pat Ellis, Dick Passmore and Peter Holwell for all of the work that they undertook and what is rapidly becoming my events team of John, Peter, Mervyn and Andy!

Christmas is Here!

Christmas celebrations at St Andrew’s are always a busy time.

We kick off with Carols by Candlelight on 7th December at 5pm when we are being treated to musical accompaniment from  a 5 piece brass ensemble organised by Paul Ryecroft. Our Christingle Service is on 14th December at 4pm.

Then Christmas really starts on Monday 22 December with our traditional Words 4 Voices Christmas special. This year Words 4 Voices are joined by the Devon Waites choir. Tickets are flying off the shelf like hot cakes (or should that be mince pies!). The tickets are priced at £9 to include a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie.

Our crib service is on 24 December at 3.30pm, followed by midnight mass at 10.30pm (yes I know that is an oxymoron because my wife tells me so!) and at 10am we have our Christmas morning service.

Jeff (stoker) Bassett (my fellow church warden) has waived his magic spanner over the Church’s heating system and we now have a head of steam (i.e. heat) , oh joy!

May I take this opportunity to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Simon Preece

Churchwarden.
