A VERY ACTIVE DECEMBER

(January 19, 2015)

December proved to be a really busy time for St Andrew’s Church. We kicked off with our Carol Service on 7 December. The Church was full and all present appreciated the brass ensemble that provided the musical accompaniment to our carol singing. One of the stars of the evening turned out to be Sebastian Boot. Sebastian co-presented the evening with the Reverend Mark Bate. Even a slight hiccup didn’t faze Sebastian one iota. Well done to the boy! Thanks also to Mark and Paul Ryecroft (who organised the band). I’m already looking forward to this year’s carol service – approximately 330 days to go!

As usual, our Christingle Service was very well attended by moms and dads and children from our community and there was a tremendous atmosphere in the Church.

Then we hosted Christmas Words and Music. This shows no sign in waning in popularity. This year we had a waiting list there was such demand for tickets. Sarah Hales tells me she has now been organsing Words and Music for over 21 years. Yet again it was a fantastic evening with the church packed.

Midnight Mass and the Christmas morning services were also very well attended this year.

FLAGPOLE

The observant amongst you will have noted that yes, we now have the flagpole back. No flag raised as yet, due to stormy weather.

SPRING COMES TO THE CHURCHYARD

At this time of year it is my view that St Andrew’s must have one of the prettiest Churchyards in the whole of Devon. It is a blaze of colour with daffodils and snowdrops. As I write this the first daffodils are in bloom. Do take the opportunity to spend a few minutes admiring the flowers and the work ongoing in the Churchyard. Those who regularly maintain that space are being assisted by Toby Bate who has taken up the challenge as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award. Toby spent the latter part of the autumn clearing the mounds of leaves in the Churchyard. Now he and friends have moved on to cutting back the brambles. It is good to see the youngsters in the parish becoming involved.

LENT IS ALMOST UPON US

This year, no sooner is Christmas over than Lent is upon us! As in past years our Lent lunches will be in the Kenn Centre, from 12.30pm until 2pm on each of the Mondays in Lent. We start on 23 February 2015 for 5 Mondays. The cost for lunch is £5.00 per head and all of the proceeds will go the Water Aid. This is a great opportunity for the community to get together and meet and make new friends, so do come along.

FANCY A COFFEE?

There is no excuse to forget our Thursday coffee mornings. We have a big banner that we put out to remind one and all that on the second Thursday of the month we get together between 10.00am and 12.00 noon for coffee, cake and a catch up. Heating is up to full strength now! Transport can be laid on. Everyone welcome. I hope to see you there.

PICNIC IN THE PARK

Following on from the success of last year’s Picnic in the Park, St Andrew’s has been fortunate enough to be able to organise a similar event for 2015. Thanks to the kind assistance of Kenn Cricket Club, this year’s Picnic in the Park will take place at Kenn Cricket Ground Trehill on Friday 19th June 2015. More later but this is a definite save the date, as you will not wish to miss out. It will be ticket only!
