CHURCHWARDEN'S JOTTINGS

(January 21, 2017)

Excellent bacon baps

January 20th saw a simple idea, of a bacon bap and coffee, brought together 60 plus people for a social get together in the Kenn Centre. It was a great success thanks to the hard work of Kate Richardson and Sally Gaydon and their team. Now I am no expert on bacon baps (Peter Phillips is) but they were delicious. Cooked by Kate to order. Well done to all and there is a strong rumour that they may repeat the event next year.

Christmas at St Andrew's

What a wonderful time it was last year. The numbers attending Church services (including the Christingle service, the carol service and the crib service) were some of the highest for many years and the Church was also packed for the various other events we hosted during December. The beginning of the month saw us playing host to singer Mary Jess. Her concert was a real treat for all those in attendance and the jungle drums have confirmed that she is to return in the summer, more on the web site soon. Words 4 Voices sold out even earlier than usual and was a fantastic start to the Christmas week festivities.

Future Events for 2017

St Andrew's social committee met in the middle of January (they are the volunteers that take the time and trouble and put in a great deal of effort to organise all of the wonderful events that St Andrew's hold and are often the unsung heros). I see some rather exciting events planned for the months head. The last Sunday in April the heritage Choral Society are coming to St Andrew's to sing evensong, the service is to be lead by Canon Ken Parry. Mid June we have picnic in the Meadow (no our venue is not a park this year!). We are holding this event in the field in front of the Church. The Stan Hacking concert band have been booked - approximately 50 musicians  - wow! Then in July we want to test the villages design and construction skills  - who can make the best scarecrow in the village in our scarecrow weekend festival. It does sound terribly exciting and I know that a lot of people are scheming and planning their scarecrows. More information to come.

Christmas Draw 2017

Our draw organiser par excellence, Helen, has decided to run a grand Christmas draw this year. She is already off sourcing some fabulous prizes. Towards the end of the summer the aim is to have the tickets on sale.

New Arrivals

We are delighted to have welcomed to our Church services in recent weeks a number of new arrivals to the village. If you have not yet attended a service, you can be assured of a very warm welcome.

Spring

Well Spring seems to have arrived in the Churchyard. Do take time to go and look at the wonderful display of spring bulbs.
