St Andrew’s Churchwarden’s Jottings

(March 24, 2015)

Picnic in the Park

Tickets are being printed. Posters are being finalized. The rock choir (30-40 members) are in rehearsals and the ESO Brass Ensemble are tuning up. This is all in preparation for our Picnic in the Park part 2 extravaganza on Friday 19 June at Kenn cricket ground.

Lookout for those tickets – there will be none sold on the night, advance bookings only! Tickets on sale shortly.

St Andrew’s Churchyard Features on BBC Radio Devon

A few Sundays ago Radio Devon presenter, Michael Chequer, could be heard talking about our wonderful floral carpet of Spring flowers in the churchyard. He remarked on what an outstanding sight it was. He was also very interested in our almost 2000 year old yew tree. Michael also popped inside the Church to admire our stained glass windows and 15th century rood screen.

Over Easter do try and take a moment to visit the churchyard and admire the flowers.

Lent Lunches

This year’s lent lunches are now finished. A big thank you to all of those who participated in providing and serving such tasty treats for lunch and those who came along to partake of the same. Over the 5 weeks over £1000 was raised for Water Aid. That is a sum of money that will really make a difference. The lunches provide a meeting point for the community which is very much appreciated and we were delighted to have been joined once again by pupils from Kenn School.

Loo Update

Whilst it would appear that things are on a bit of a go slow, behind the scenes matters are progressing. The requested historical research that we were required to undertake has been completed. Now drawings are being prepared, a structural engineer appointed and the copious paperwork for the application to the Diocesan Advisory Committee is being prepared. As we move forward I will continue to provide further updates.

Easter Weekend

I always feel that Spring has properly arrived when we celebrate Easter in the Church. It all commences with our Maundy Thursday Service, followed by Good Friday’s service, culminating in our celebration service at 9.30am on Easter Sunday.

As usual the Church will be beautifully decorated for our Sunday service with wonderful flower arrangements in the windows and other areas. We do hope that you will be able to join us. My thanks to all of those who are helping during holy week.
